We’re a media company with the goal of making a difference across today’s most pressing social challenges. Our businesses focus on areas that are underserved by the support networks and policies that can really make a difference to people’s lives. We’re setting out to Do The Right Thing (DTRT Media).
With over 85 years of collective multimedia experience in creating customer-centric, content-led brands, our talented leadership team is passionate about social change, and at a point in their careers where they want to use their expertise and skills as a force for good - and build a lasting legacy.
We are experts in bringing people together, building relationships and driving lasting initiatives – and each of us has been touched by social challenges at some point in our lives.
If truth be told, experiencing challenges like these, either directly or through a loved one, never really leave you.
An opportunity – serendipity, if you like – presented itself to collaborate with our Founder, an individual who is equally passionate about improving social support. Conversations with various individuals had sparked an idea to launch a media business that evoked change. So here we are.
We forge partnerships and alliances to get under the skin of the industries we work in. We provide and build unparalleled connections, content, events and insights to educate, unite, raise awareness, and create meaningful, lasting change for some of today’s most escalating, yet too often silent, challenges.
We are always on the side of the industries we serve, but we are committed to providing an independent and impartial voice.
Actionable Intelligence: We provide critical content and information to evoke change within industries that face escalating and pressing social challenges.
Connecting: We create a place physically and digitally for the industries we serve to connect and advance together.
Celebrating: We recognise and reward the absolute best in our industries, and champion their success.
Benchmarking: We provide an impartial interpretation of the performance of each of our ecosystems by identifying best practice and providing others with the insight to raise their game.
Learning: We provide the insights and education required to set our communities up for long-term success and support.
DTRT Media specializes in two main subject areas
MHiS
Our first brand is MHiS (Mental Health in Sports).
MHiS is a multimedia information provider that works with professional sports industries to advance the mental health agenda within each. We recognise the huge importance of supporting mental health in these high-pressure industries, and the subsequent impact that normalising mental health discussions amongst high-profile teams and individuals can have on wider society.
Mental Health in Professional Football (MHiPF.com) is the first in a series of sub-brands.
ENDOMETRIOSIS (name of business?)
Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age in the UK; that’s around 1.5 million women (176 million worldwide). It is the second most common gynaecological condition in the UK, but on average takes 7.5 years from onset of symptoms to diagnosis. Currently, there is no cure for endometriosis.
Endometriosis costs the UK economy £8.2bn a year in treatment, loss of work and healthcare costs (Endometriosis UK).
We aim to increase awareness of this condition, and lobby for increased funding for research and improved treatments.
Our mission is to get as many employers as possible to provide free gym membership to employees: making employers aware of potential employee mental health issues, and providing support around them, whilst offering very real benefits for the employer in terms of improved productivity.
JaG will operate as a free recruitment platform (JaG) where employers can place free-of-charge adverts for jobs that provide free gym membership, and will link to everything we do in the mental health sector.
The employer must include how much they will pay for a gym membership for any applying candidate.
JaG will then negotiate for gym memberships with corporate discounts.
The employee then gets to choose a gym in a location of their choice within the employers’ budget.
Our JaG app will provide functions such as rotas for gym time across the working day; competitions between employees to encourage gym usage; and a support mechanism for any physical/ mental health concerns.
This plan has been presented to UK Active who are keen to support the JaG concept.
JaG will also produce a roadshow of events to present its concept of fitness, wellness and mental health to employers nationwide.
There appears to be a lack of knowledge among professional advisors around SEIS; the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) that was set up in 2012 by the Government to encourage private ‘angel’ investors to invest in early stage and startup businesses. Knowledge is required around the way that the scheme works, and how to attract SEIS angel investors.
As a result, we are building a comprehensive ‘matching’ platform that will work similarly to a dating site to ‘match’ businesses requiring investment with angel investors. This platform will provide advanced tools that guide both businesses and investors through the process.
In addition, SEIS MATCH plans to host a country-wide roadshow offering live pitching events and real practical hands-on guidance, to bring businesses and professionals together and enable both to benefit from the scheme.
UK female-led businesses are just 44% of the size of male-led businesses on average, and in terms of their contribution to the economy. Male-led SMEs are five times more likely to scale up to £1million turnover than female-led SMEs (Federation of Small Businesses).
Why? Quite simply there is a gender bias at every level.
Shockingly, less than 1% of UK venture funding goes to all-female teams in just 4% of deals.
It is evident that there is an untapped pool of investment from women in the UK, which could considerably increase the chances of female entrepreneurs and founders accessing the capital they need to build and grow their businesses.
Little is heard of the success stories that would encourage others. We aim to create a community around this subject and share inspiring stories through video interviews, online media and print. Women investors are carving the future financial landscape for female entrepreneurs seeking investment, and this is something that needs to be praised, replicated, and normalised within the investment sector (www.thisismoney.co.uk 2019).
Our ambition is to help break down the barriers and unlock the potential that exists within the UK economy.
Leaving prison with a criminal conviction creates several barriers, with employment being one of the most daunting.
Reoffending costs the UK taxpayer billions of pounds each year.
Start Up Stop-Off was created to break the cycle of reoffending: by improving employment opportunities for ex-offenders, we aim to reduce the likelihood of reoffending - whilst also providing a boost for startups.
Startup Stop-Off matches an ex-offender’s aptitudes with an appropriate startup. Ex-offenders will initially work for the startup on day-release, and then for a 3-month period once released.
Our aim is for many startups to offer the individual a permanent position. Alternatively, we hope that the experience of a startup environment will inspire the individual to set up a business themselves. In the latter case, Startup Stop-Off will provide a full support structure to ensure the best chance of success.
Participating startups will gain the benefit of having an ‘employee’ without any outlay, creating the potential to generate additional revenue and allow the business to grow with little or no additional funding.
Not every legal dispute needs to be resolved by the Courts. Litigation can be costly and time consuming.
The potential for Online Dispute Resolution is huge, and the UK Government and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have been pushing for a long time to take as much of the court system online as possible.
Additionally, if the English Courts are costly and time consuming for dispute resolution, then the cost and time for an international dispute are multiplied many times. A viable and substantially cheaper alternative for international disputes (by resolution online) is clearly required.
We are in the early stages of building an online mediation platform which will target all claims above £25,000 where both parties want to resolve the issue quickly, without the time and cost of attending court.
When a business (or individual) finds itself in a situation where the only resolution to an issue is through the courts but can’t risk the cost of litigation, there is an option called Third Party Litigation Funding (TPLF).
TPLF has traditionally been provided for claims of £10m+; more recently reducing to £500k in some cases. However, the SME market with claims of £25k to £500k has been largely ignored. This will be our focus; building an online platform to provide access to funding and justice for a section of the business community that has long been unable to stand up againstlarge organisations with deep pockets.
The Future of Litigation Funding platform will also benefit solicitors who can take on cases that they would otherwise have had to turn away, creating the potential for an increase in business. In addition, we will be lobbying for regulation in this unregulated industry, and creating a Future Of Litigation Funding event.
We are creating an online crowdfunding platform for all forms of commercial dispute resolution, bringing together the rapidly expanding TPLF (Third Party Litigation Funding) sector, peer-to-peer lending and crowdfunding. CrowdLegal will aim to provide funding for cases that would previously not have been pursued due to cost and financial risk from sources other than the existing TPLF funds.
“The basis of the Fair Banking Charter (FBC) is one of the most personal missions that I must deliver in life” - Chris Nisbet, Founder, DTRT Events
Over the past 20 years, news items highlighting unfair treatment of customers by the banks have regularly featured in the media. Many do not make it as far as the press. The Founder of DTRT Media, Chris Nisbet, was the subject of one of those stories. Even people close to him know only of some of the many issues he experienced with banks. These stories may sound far fetched, even incredulous to some; after all, if you can’t trust a bank, who can you trust? Yet his experiences are not unique. Many have lost everything due to banks’ questionable practices.
Our aim is to bring together all banks to sign The Fair Banking Charter, which would replace or heavily support the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).
Any customer with a complaint with an FBC-affiliated financial institution would have their calls and correspondence recorded and time-stamped via blockchain, to prevent any misrepresentation in court via false, wrongly-dated or alleged lack of documentation or records.
The primary purpose of the FBC is to protect the customer. However, there will be many times where the charter also protects the lender. Additionally, there will be time and cost-saving benefits to both lawyers and courts due to the availability of fully-certified chronology between the lender and borrower, as well as an option to upload witness statements via the FBC online blockchain platform.
This is a very real and personal passion of the founder, borne out of bitter experience and ultimately the desire that this does not happen to any other individual.
